new paper mache sculpture with older work in the studio
Walking into Shaun's large, light-filled studio one is greeted by a cheerful crowd of new sculptures. She has been working on an exciting body of work that challenges balance, line and space. The pieces, deliberately a little clumsy or quirky, are made with paper-mache on wire armatures and seem to be always on the verge of falling - or dancing.
As you can see, some of the work is installed on the wall, some hangs and floats like mutant space ships, others rise from the table. All have a very lively, whimsical presence.
Shaun's home and studio are just outside the village of Galisteo, New Mexico, where she has lived with her husband, photographer Nick Merrick, for many years.
